2013-14 Season Statistics
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – This Sunday the Davenport Men's Tennis will host Lake Superior State University in a non-conference match and it comes on the heels of an up and down performance at the USTA/ITA Regionals that DU hosted last weekend. Head coach Patrick Grashorn reflects on the ITA's and is encouraged to see how the team will respond after some quality practices throughout the week. Match time on Sunday is set for 10 a.m. at the Farmers Athletic Complex.
Thoughts from Head Coach Patrick Grashorn
Your men had an up and down showing at the regional tournament, what did you/they learn from that and how will you put it into motion going forward?
We had our moments at the tournament. There were some solid wins and some tough losses. Overall I would say we underachieved in my opinion. We're just not quite match tough yet. Sunday's match against LSSU will be a good test to see if we've made any progress this week during practice.
The doubles team of Carvalho/Rogerson posted some big wins, do you expect them to stay as a team as you continue on?
Doubles is a game of chemistry, positioning and shot making. Matheus and Sam have the best hands on the team which helps them beat their opponent to the net. They are in a good place right now and unless that changes, I like them as a team moving forward.
Juan-Philip is off to a nice start in singles, how is his game transitioning to the college level?
There's no denying Juan-Philip has talent. We brought him in knowing that he has a tremendous amount of potential and he has shown that already. He moves well in singles and hits a clean ball but there's work to be done in his doubles decision making and instincts.
