GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – It took until the start of the second half to find the back of the net but the No. 10 Davenport women's soccer opened their home schedule on a high note.

Letesha Cannonier broke the ice 1:32 into the latter period and shortly added another to help the Panthers cruise by Bluffton 5-0 on a clear-sky Saturday afternoon at DU Turf Field.

The Panthers, who christened the 2013 season's home schedule after playing six straight on the road, improve to 6-1 on the year and will entertain Cleary University in the non-conference finale Wednesday for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

Davenport dominated the possession all throughout the match. Lizzie Paul recorded 10 of DU's 32 overall shots, while Cannonier took four of the team's 14 shots on goal. Bluffton (2-2) had a pair of scoring chances but Panther keeper Michelle Marcus kept the Beavers from putting a point on the board for her fourth shutout of the season.

The first half saw a lot of action in the Beavers territory. The Panthers had numerous opportunities to get on the board in the opening period, including a penalty kick that was brilliantly read and stopped by Beaver netminder Maggie Armstrong.

Shortly after intermission, Cannonier dribbled down the left flank to the penalty area before her shot to the right side of the post beat Armstrong for the match's first goal. Cannonier cashed in an insurance goal at the 51:47 mark. Brenna Hartner dribbled to midfield before connecting to Cannonier up front. While dealing with a defender, the junior's one-touch shot past Armstrong and rolled into the goal.

After the Beavers restarted the match following a Davenport offside, Kilee Lovelace sent the ball back to the keeper's box, where Paul picked up a the loose ball and immediately set up an one-on-one matchup with Armstrong. Paul took an open shot on the right side for Davenport's third goal in the 57th minute.

A pair of Panthers tallied their first goals of the season midway through the second half. In the 67th minute, Laken Duchar-Clark played keep away with a Beaver midfielder before finding Beery on the right side. Beery dribbled to the penalty line before taking her unanswered shot for the fourth goal. In similar fashion, Lindsey Klein found Duchar-Clark breaking away from the Beaver defense. The senior made a few touches before connecting her first goal of the year in the 74th minute.
