GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport baseball team is perhaps playing the best baseball right now, having won a season-best 12 straight games. And the timing is just right as the Panthers enter the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament, which begins Wednesday at the Farmers Athletic Complex, as the No. 2 seed and will face No. 3 Indiana Tech in game two at approximately 1 p.m. Fans can watch the game live on the Davenport Athletics Network with Gene Halbert calling the action.

The WHAC Tournament is a five-team double elimination format that is scheduled to conclude Friday. Should the weather decide not to be cooperative on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, the teams will use Saturday as a makeup date. The tournament will open up with Aquinas and Northwestern Ohio Wednesday at 10 a.m., followed by the Panthers facing the Warriors at 1 p.m. The evening cap of the day will feature the winner of the Saints-Racers game taking on top-seed Madonna at 3 p.m., while the losing teams of the first two games go head-to-head at 7 p.m.

It was somewhat expected that Davenport and Indiana Tech would meet for a fifth consecutive time. Both ballclubs met in a four-game series last Friday and Saturday with the Panthers sweeping the Warriors. Pitching dominated the series as the Panthers allowed four runs, two earned, in 32 innings. In fact, the Warriors were shutout practically for the entire series, going 28 consecutive innings without scoring a run.
