GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The 24th-ranked Davenport men's tennis team opened up the NAIA Unaffiliated Regional Tournament with a 6-3 win over its crosstown rival Cornerstone but eventually fell to No. 17 Northwestern Ohio 5-0 in the semifinal round Friday at Orchard Hills. Matheus Moreira de Carvalho picked up the first-set victory 6-3 and was ahead 4-0 in the second set before Racers clinched the fifth point. Pell also had a rally going at No. 6. Post-Match Quotes – Head Coach Patrick Grashorn

“The match against Cornerstone was very competitive as expected but we came out on top, defending our seed. I was disappointed with the semifinals. The guys were very excited for this rematch but it didn't end up being very competitive in the end. We really struggled in the outdoors. Overall, it was a record breaking season for the guys and one to be proud of. We're making great strides every year and hopefully we continue that trend.”
