GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After a three hour rain/slow delay, Davenport and Concordia finally got some softball in as each team was able to grab a win on a cool Sunday afternoon at the Farmers Athletic Complex. Both teams were forced to cancel and postpone numerous games this week and each walked away with a 3-1 win in a league doubleheader. Concordia won the opener before DU grabbed the split as the Panthers are now 24-9-1 (7-1 WHAC) and they will host Cornerstone on Tuesday in a battle between two of the three teams tied for the conference lead.

Game 1 – L, 1-3

Concordia used a miscue in the field from Davenport to take a slim 1-0 lead in the top of the third but the Panthers fought back to the score when Paige Sant'Angelo singled to shortstop in the bottom of the fifth to score KC Dunne on the play. Dunne finished the game with a team-leading two hits and scored the lone DU run.

The Cardinals then got a lead-off triple in their next at-bat and two runs later had their lead at 3-1 forcing the DU bats to answer but unfortunately, they never did as Concordia posted the 3-1 win.

Sam Cole went all seven innings for the Panthers as the senior suffered just her fifth loss of the season while giving up three runs (1 earned) on five hits while striking out eight.

Game 2 - W, 3-1

Davenport got started quickly as they have done most of the season with leadoff hitter Amber Getty reaching on a bunt single to extend her hitting streak to 16 games in the first at bat of the DU half of the opening inning. After Dunne also reached on a single, they both were brought home on a driving shot to right center off the bat of freshman Carli SanMillan and DU had themselves a 2-0 lead.

It was more than enough for freshman Kyleigh Linebaugh on the mound as she went all seven inning while just giving up three hits and striking out a career high six batters.

Davenport added to their lead in the second when Debra Burton scored on a long fly ball from Amber Getty and DU allowed just one run from the Cardinals to post the 3-1 win.

Davenport will now host Cornerstone on Tuesday at 4 p.m. as the Golden Eagles enter tied with the Panther along with Madonna in the WHAC regular season standings. Both games will be broadcast live on the Davenport Athletics Network.

Post-Game Quotes - Head coach Ronda Varnesdeel

"Today's first game reaffirmed how important it is to come ready to play both physically and mentally for every game. We made mistakes in game one and Concordia capitalized on every one of those which resulted in a loss. The road ahead of us will be a difficult one but I know this team is capable of withstanding a challenging week ahead of us."
