Box Score
HOLLAND, Mich. - Davenport picked up a big non-conference win on Thursday evening as they used a solid team effort to defeat Hope College on their home court. The 5-4 win over the Flying Dutch ended a two-match skid for the Lady Panthers as they improve to 12-8 on the season. Head coach
Patrick Grashorn and his team will resume action on Wednesday, April 4 when they host Cornerstone in a league match.
After falling 5-4 in each of their last two matches, the Davenport women's tennis overcame the one point swing and picked up a big road win at Hope College on Thursday 5-4. DU made a switch in the doubles pairings and got a win from
Angelica Woods and
Marcie Kooyers at No. 2 by the score of 8-4. That point along with the one from
Emily Spiech and
Alyssa Fuentes at the top proved to be huge as the match continued into singles play.
Spiech overcame a slow start in singles to come back and win at No. 1 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 and Fuentes swept her opponent at No. 2 by the scores of 6-1, 6-1. DU still needed one more victory to claim the overall match and they got that from sophomore
Angelica Woods who won 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 at No. 5 singles.
The win ends a two-match skid for DU as they now turn their attention back to league play next Wednesday when they host Cornerstone.
