KISSIMEE, Fla. – Davenport University tennis has had some interesting weather days in Florida but they made it through a two-day stretch that saw them pick up three wins including an upset of No. 15 Warner University. The Panthers also defeated Augustana College (Ill.) and Concordia-Moorhead to improve to 8-3 on the year. The Panthers have one more match remaining on their spring break trip when they face NCAA D1 Mt. St. Mary's (Md.) on Friday.

The Davenport men's tennis team picked up one of the biggest wins in the short history of the program as they downed NAIA No. 15 Warner University 6-3 in a match that lasted two days because of the weather. DU also won over Concordia and Augustana which are both NCAA DIII.

Concordia – Def. 9-0

Davenport controlled from the start to the finish while dropping only a combined 33 games between the nine matches. Posting the most convincing wins were Tyler Chambers at No. 3 singles (6-0, 6-0) and Matheus Moreira de Carvalho with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.

#15 Warner – Def. 6-3

One of the biggest wins in program history for the men's tennis team lasted two days! DU and the Royals started play on Monday afternoon in Winter Park but after just three doubles matches and a few points in the singles play were completed, rain halted play. DU held a 3-0 advantage in the doubles portion therefore sleeping on a lead when the teams resumed play the next day.

All three doubles matches were close as Vitaly Shumilov teamed with Pierre Michelsen to win 8-5 at No. 1, Carvalho teamed with Eric Pell to win 9-7 at No. 2 and Zac Chambers paired with his brother Tyler to win 8-5 at No. 3.

Davenport then got three out of the six singles matches to take the overall points and win the match. Winning in singles play were Shumilov at No. 2 (6-3, 6-4), Christian Woods at No. 5 (6-4, 2-6, 6-2) and Carvalho at No. 6 (6-3, 4-6, 6-2).

Augustana – Def. 8-1

Davenport finished off their busy stretch with an impressive 8-1 win over Augustana on Tuesday morning as they won all three doubles matches by a combined score of 24-8 and then won five of the six singles matches as well.

The three wins puts the Panthers at 8-3 overall as they have won all four of their matches in the state of Florida. DU will finish their trip on Friday with a match against NCAA DI Mount St. Mary's (Md.).

Post-Match Quotes – Head coach Patrick Grashorn
On Match vs. Warner – Day 1: We came out ready to prove we belong right away. The intensity from the guys was amazing, as was the energy. I would have been happy to come out of the doubles with 2 out of 3 but when Pell and Carvalho came back from down 4-7 to win the match, I knew the match was ours for the taking. When the rain came and the decision was to resume the next day, we lost some of the momentum from the doubles but also allowed some of guys to refocus their singles strategy.
Day 2: After losing the first sets, both Zac and Tyler came up with huge second sets to push their matches to a third. The atmosphere at the match was intense. Our parents and women's team were there screaming their lungs out. It was probably the loudest match I've been a part of. Matheus clinched the match by storming to a 5-0 lead in the third set, finally winning 6-2.
I'm very happy for our guys. They deserved the win tonight.
