GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The sixth-ranked Davenport women's basketball team got off to a slow start in the first half, but a huge run heading into intermission set the tone of the game as the top seeded Panthers opened the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament with an 84-58 win over eighth seed Northwestern Ohio Wednesday evening.

With the win, the Panthers (28-2) advance to the semifinals and will host Madonna Saturday at 1 p.m. The Crusaders moved forward after rolling past Cornerstone 69-43 in Adrian.

Karli Harris and Tiesha Stokes both showed why they were All-WHAC selections against the Racers. Harris tallied 19 points and 10 assists for her second straight double-double game, while Stokes went a perfect 7-for-7 from the floor, along with a pair of free throws, in the first half and finished the game with 17 points and seven rebounds. Kendra Cook finished the evening with 12 points and Emily Nielsen and Alex Law both contributed 11.

As a team, the Panthers shot .476 from the field.

The Racers (11-20) jumped to a 4-0 lead to start the game before Law nailed two 3-point shots and Nielsen completed a layup to take an 8-4 lead. The Racers would chase the Panthers until an 8-0 run in 36 seconds gave them a 25-17 lead, their largest lead in the game.

Davenport got back into rhythm and the leadership of Harris and Stokes guided the Panthers to a 27-3 run in nearly 10 minutes to take a 44-28 lead with 34 seconds left.

The Panthers picked up where they left off in the second half. Nielsen led the Panthers to a 16-2 run in the first four minutes of the half to build Davenport's lead to 61-32.
