Women’s Hockey Set to Open Home-and-Home Series with Grand Valley State

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After going 1-2 at the ACHA Women's Hockey Division I Showcase in Rhode Island last weekend, Davenport returns to Central Collegiate Women's Hockey Association action this weekend to play a home-and-home series with Grand Valley State. Game one will take place at the Lakers' Georgetown Ice Rink Friday at 8 p.m. while game two shifts over to Patterson Ice Center Saturday at 3 p.m.

The Panthers return home after earning a win against Vermont but suffering losses to Massachusetts and Northeastern in the ACHA Division I Showcase last weekend. Three Panthers (Chantal Caraher, Lexie Boydston and Darian Adams) collected three goals over the weekend with Caraher adding five assists for eight points. In addition, Tara Boliard had three assists and Melissa Cresse also had three points, scoring one goal and notching a pair of assists. Victoria Smishek got the starting nod between the pipes in all three games, making 118 saves in 120 minutes of work.

The Lakers were also in Rhode Island participating in the ACHA Showcase last weekend, earning wins over Vermont and Northeastern but suffering a loss to Rhode Island in the finale. Kendra Myers and Stacey Mathieu have been the leaders offensively for Grand Valley State, with both of them tallying 19 points on the year. Myers has 12 goals and seven assists while Mathieu has 10 goals, nine assists. The goaltending duties have been split between Karen Sloboda and Taylor Watson. Sloboda has spent the most time on the ice at 435 minutes, allowing 13 goals and making 211 assists. Watson, who has played 225 minutes, has stopped 60 shots and allowed five goals.
