GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport got fired up during the second and took control against Adrian College- Black, but the third period belonged to Adrian who scored two goals to tie the game and went on to win 5-4 in OT. A variety of Panthers stood out and we saw goals from offensive leaders such as Jake Otto, Bryon Guerin, Patrick Martin, and Daniel Swink who helped make a difference for DU. Saturday these two teams will meet in Adrian at 7:00 p.m.

The Panthers developed some good offensive opportunities in the first half of period one especially when Cody Mathieu fed a pass to assistant captain Donald Sund who took action and slid the puck to Jake Otto, resulting in an Otto shot which fired to the back of the Bulldogs net. Adrian responded five minutes later when Daniel Long put one on the board for the away team. Both teams were able to hold strong on defense for the rest of the period and the score remained tied at 1-1 going into the second.

Davenport found some room to breathe early in period two when Blake Damerow and Jake Hambidge created a clever passing play that opened up Adrian's man-down defense and fed the puck to Bryon Guerin, who drove it past the Bulldogs goalie to put DU up 2-1 with plenty of time to go. Despite excellent play by the home town defense, AC successfully tied the game up once again with just less than 15 minutes to play. Cruse demonstrated some excellent saves throughout the middle of the second, keeping Adrian at bay while Davenport offense tried to put some points on the board. Patrick Martin gave the Panthers what they needed by breaking the 2-2 lead by scoring a goal with seven minutes to play. Jordan Crawford slipped a pass to Daniel Swink, and Swink took care of the rest just a minute after Martin did. Davenport took their 4-2 lead into the final period of play tonight at Patterson.

The first half of period three consisted of Andrew Habasevich and the Bulldogs goalie taking turns getting fired at only to respond with a multitude of saves despite both offensive teams constant persistence. A four-on-four opportunity proved to be good for AC who scored a quick goal to put the score at 4-3 with 3:51 to play in the third. Ten seconds later Adrian managed to tie the game with a big play putting DU two men down with over three minutes to play. Both teams battled but the game made it to overtime.

Adrian scored off of a tipped puck one minute and twenty two seconds into the over-time period to beat the Panthers 5-4. Tomorrow the Panthers head to Adrian for a 7 p.m. game where they hope to even the weekend series results out.
