HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Davenports Men's D3 Hockey team beat Auburn University 11-1 tonight, giving them their second win of the tournament and keeping their record undefeated. Dugan Kelley played a strong part in the team's offensive success tonight by scoring a hat-trick. The Panther offense was able to put up 60 shots on the opponents net, and the defense kept Auburns offense to only seven shots. Sunday they search for one final win against Alabama at 11:30 a.m. EST, to try to complete their undefeated trip down south.
For the second night in a row DU came out on the ice ready to take on their opponent Auburn University.
Jake Hambidge fed a pass to Dugan Kelley giving Kelley his first of three goals tonight and the Panthers an early 1-0 lead in the first.
Donald Sund struck the enemy net next, and the Panthers didn't stop there. Kelley got a second goal and
Patrick Martin was able to give Davenport a 4-0 lead. At the end of the first, Auburn scored their first and only goal of the night.
The second period saw immediate action when
Jordan Crawford was able to score just 30 seconds in after he received a pass from
Jake Otto. Forward
Brent Smith saw his first goal of the season and Freshman
Parker Lint got the assist and the Panthers were up 6-1. The end of the second period brought Dugan Kelley hat-trick glory after he ripped a shot at Auburns goalie for his third goal of the night. Davenport headed into the third period with a comfortable 7-1 lead.
The third period brought more shots and more goals for the Panthers.
Daniel Swink was able to grab his second goal of the night in the beginning of the third.
Cody Mathieu put a point on the board after he got a pass from Sund. Martin scored a goal in the middle of the third giving him his second two-goal night in a row and putting DU up 10-1. Auburn got a penalty near the end of the third, and Swink saw the opportunity and, with the help of
Parker Lint, scored a power-play goal to finish the game with a final score of 11-1.
Sunday Morning the Panthers take on Alabama at 11:30 a.m. EST for their final game of the tournament.
