ADRIAN, Mich. –
Lexie Boydston and
Darian Adams both scored the first goal of their careers, but Adrian College tallied three in the second period to beat the Davenport women's hockey team 5-2 Saturday afternoon. The Panthers will continue their road swing as they travel to Marquette, Mich., to play a two-game set at Northern Michigan University. Game one Saturday is set for a 6 p.m. faceoff while Sunday's contest is at 11 a.m.
The Panthers would strike first for the fourth time in the last five games when
Darian Adams took a wrist shot from the right circle over Bulldog goalie Ellyn Stanton with three minutes left.
Lexie Boydston came within inches of scoring when Davenport was on the power play in the second period, but the puck came to rest at the goal line. It was all Adrian's Ashley Chinn in the second period as she scored two of the Bulldogs three goals in the middle period. Chinn was able to beat
Victoria Smishek on the high block side coming out of the left corner for the first goal and the second was on a backhand shot that found its way into the net through traffic.
Davenport received an opportunity to change the momentum coming out of the locker room from the second intermission with a 5-on-3 advantage but despite good puck movement the Panthers couldn't capitalize.
The Panthers successfully killed a 4-on-3 penalty but Adrian managed to get two power play goals within the final minutes.
Boydston scored the second goal with one minute remaining in the game, roofing it over Stanton and into the net.
