GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport Men's DIII Hockey team packs their bags and heads down south to Huntsville, Ala., where they will compete in the three-day Civil War- ACHA showcase against Ole Miss, University of Alabama and Auburn University. Ole Miss will be DU's first opponent on the ice Friday at 5:30 p.m., followed by Auburn Saturday at 7 p.m. and Alabama Sunday at 12:30 p.m. All faceoff times are Eastern.
Joining the Panthers in representing the north are Grand Valley State University and the University of Michigan, Flint.
DU walks into this showcase with strong confidence after recording 11 goals and 14 assists in their two-game season-opener against Central Michigan at home last weekend. Davenport goalies
John Cruse and
Andrew Habasevich both got the chance to play a full game; together they only allowed CMU to score three goals the whole weekend, and both Panthers walked away with 14 saves apiece.
Davenport is seeking redemption against Ole Miss and Alabama after going 1-2 in last year's Civil War matchups, beating the University of Southern Florida 12-0 but falling short to Ole Miss 2-5 and the Frozen Tide 1-3.
