No. 22 Volleyball to Host Four Matches this Week

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The 22nd ranked volleyball team will play the remainder of the regular season at home and it begins this week with four matches in a four-day span starting Wednesday when they welcome Lourdes University for a WHAC match at 7 p.m. DU will then play host to Bethel (Ind.) on Halloween night before welcoming in Spring Arbor and St. Francis (Ind.) on Saturday in a quad with Aquinas College. All matches will be streamed live on the Davenport Athletics Network.

Date: Wednesday, October 30

Scouting Lourdes – 15-10, 4-5 WHAC – Head coach Greg Reitz (4th season)
Lourdes comes into the week off a very impressive win over the top team from the Crossroads League, Bethel College, last week and is under the direction of fourth year head coach Greg Reitz. The Gray Wolves, who started their volleyball program in 2010, have posted 15 wins so far this season and are currently in 8th place in the WHAC. LU has been led on offense by Stephanie Richards who has 243 kills which is 59 more than the second hitter. Defensively, All-WHAC performer Michi Jimenez leads the Gray Wolves with 346 digs.

The Pilots come into the week as one of the top teams in the region as they have taken charge of the Crossroads League with a 16-2 mark through 18 matches and are the only team to defeat Indiana Wesleyan in conference play. 2nd year head coach Kevin Ulmer has been led on offense by middle hitter Audrey Husack who has 411 kills and outside hitter Alicia Carlton who has 302.

Quick Look at Spring Arbor
The Cougars and head coach Carol Gates are just 5-26 on the season but have four of those setbacks in five-set matches. SAU is just 1-17 in conference play but will step out and play DU and Aquinas this weekend. To get any victories, the Cougars will rely on the play from Alysssa Frees (299 kills) and Rebekah Kujat (216 kills) as well as their defense from Lyndsay Murray (545 digs).

Quick Look at Saint Francis (Ind.)
The Saints have been an up and down team in 2013 as they are 16-14 and before their recent stretch of four wins in a row, had not posted more than 2 consecutive victories in a row.
Head coach Fabiana Souza and her team are .500 in conference play at 9-9 and have  been paced on offense by Justine Keiser with 139 kills.
