GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport closed out the 2013 Panther Invitational with two more victories despite dropping their first set of the tourney in the win over Ashford. The Panthers defeated Grace College in straight sets (25-18, 25-20, 25-22) and then overcame their first dropped set to defeat the Saints 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-15, 25-23). DU will get back to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play on Wednesday as they travel to Fort Wayne to take on Indiana Tech.

Match 1 – Davenport 3, Grace (Ind.) 0
The opening two sets saw the Panthers take control from the very beginning and they closed out the Lancers with 25-18 and 25-20 victories. Grace, however, raced out to a big lead in the third set but the Panthers recovered to come back and finish the match with a 25-22 win.

Olivia DenHartigh continued her outstanding play as the freshman led the team with 15 kills while Hannah Stone chipped in with 13. Amber Getty had 43 assists, 11 digs and five kills in the three-set win as the Panthers improved to 3-0 in the tournament.

Match 2 – Davenport 3, Ashford 1
After Davenport opened the match with a 25-17 win in the first set, the visiting Saints came back and made it a 1-1 match with a 25-23 win in the second. The Panthers hung tough and played one of their best sets of the tournament in the third to take a 2-1 lead with a 25-15 win and then DU clawed back from down 20-15 in the fourth to win 25-23.

Olivia DenHartigh once again led the offense with 17 kills while Hannah Stone was second with 13. DU hit .204 on the match while holding the Saints to .130. Sidney Rodriguez (18) and Maddy Cassleman (10) anchored the defense while Amber Getty finished with her second straight double-double of 53 assists and 14 digs.

Davenport will now get back to conference play when they head to Fort Wayne on Wednesday to face Indiana Tech. Match time against the Warriors is set for 7 p.m.
