No. 5 Panthers Roll Past Beltline Rival Aquinas For 17th Win

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Karli Harris and Alex Law both had 16 points, Emily Nielsen added 15 and Tiesha Stokes contributed 14 as they guided the fifth-ranked Davenport women's basketball team to a 108-49 Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference victory over its Beltline rival Aquinas Saturday afternoon. Davenport improves to 17-0 overall, 9-0 in the WHAC, while Aquinas drops to 8-6 overall, 4-5 in league play.
 
The Lady Panthers continue to dominate the numbers in the box score. Davenport held a 41-37 edge on rebounds to extend the streak to eight. The Lady Panthers also continues to keep putting pressure on their opponents as the Saints conceded 30 turnovers while the Panthers allowed 15.
 
Harris returned to her normal ways after scoring only nine points and tallying three assists at UM-Dearborn Wednesday. In addition to scoring 16 points against the Saints, Harris added seven helpers.
 
Stokes also led the team with nine rebounds and four steals. Law, meanwhile, was a perfect 4-for-4 from behind the arc.
 
As a team, Davenport shot 57 percent from the floor, 44 from the 3-point line.
 
Davenport immediately jumped on the scoreboard with an Emily Nielsen 3-point basket and a Tiesha Stokes layup. After Aquinas got on the board, Karli Harris got the Panthers back on track with a layup and a free throw and built a 17-3 at the 14:28 mark.
 
With 1:41 left in the first half, Shaina Johnson nailed a 3-point basket to give the Panthers a 52-23 lead, the largest lead in the period.
 
Davenport went into intermission with a 55-29 lead. The Panthers were also shooting with a lot of confidence as they shot 61 percent from the floor. Harris led the pack with 11 points while Stokes added 10. Harris also went into the locker room with five assists.
 
It was déjà vu all over again in the second half. Nielsen opened the period with another 3-pointer 35 seconds in and added two more points a minute later.
 
With a 94-49 lead at the 3:18 mark, Davenport would head to the finish line with a 16-0 run. Law led the run with seven points consecutively. Nikki Trammel also added five during the run.
 
The Lady Panthers will be tested Wednesday in Ann Arbor as they will take on 14th-ranked Concordia. The top two teams in the WHAC standings will begin their battle at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's teams.

Davenport reached the 100-point mark for the fourth time this season, third in the last five games…Alex Law's 16 points on the afternoon is a new personal best, besting her 14 scored against Ohio Wesleyan…Davenport's 57 percentile on the floor is a new season-best, breaking 54 against Holy Cross (Ind.)…Davenport is 2-0 this season against Beltline rivals Cornerstone and Aquinas.
