GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – No. 8 Davenport rebounded from their first two-game WHAC skid in five years with an impressive 70-52 win over No. 18 Indiana Tech on Saturday evening at the DU Student Center. Nine different players posted at least five points as the Panthers improved to 15-4 on the season overall and 8-3 in league play. DU will start the second half of conference play on Wednesday when they visit Marygrove College for a 7:30pm tip in Detroit.

Dominez Burnett scored eight points in each half for a team high 16 and he was the only Panther in double-figures as Sean Hill and DeArmond Davis chipped in with eight each and four others scored six apiece. JaVontae Ford and Davis led a rebounding charge with nine each as the Panthers won the battle on the boards 37-24. Davenport also held the Warriors 17 points below their season average of 69 as DU limited the visitors to just 35.7% shooting from the field.

In a game that featured two of the top defensive scoring teams in the country, the first half was a good display of that as DU held the Warriors scoreless for almost five minutes as they built a 6-0 lead with four coming from freshman Dominez Burnett. The lead would continue to grow throughout the first half with the Panthers holding their largest lead of 15 (27-12) when Tre Tigner got his second layup of the half with 1:37 remaining and DU held an 11-point edge at the break 27-16.

After making only six field goals in the opening twenty minutes, the No. 18 Warriors connected on three of their first four in the second to get the lead under 10 but DU used an 8-0 run highlighted by a pair of buckets from Dawid Czerniawski to post a lead of 17 (41-24) with 13:43 remaining.

The lead would continue to grow and went over 20 when freshman Kyle Stidom scored five straight points to up the lead to 61-41 with 4:40 remaining forcing Tech into a timeout. The very next possession, DeArmond Davis took a nice feed from Dawid Czerniawski and DU ended with a 70-52 win over the 18th ranked team in the country.

Post-Game Notes

The victory over Indiana Tech is the Panthers third straight at the Student Center since dropping a WHAC semifinal contest in 2011…In those three wins, DU has allowed a combined 160 points (49-59-52) for an average of 53.3…DU is now 4-2 against teams from the NAIA Top-25 this season and improves to 16-10 under Burt Paddock
