GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Coming off its first loss of the season at No. 13 Concordia Wednesday, the third-ranked Davenport women's basketball team returns to the Student Center looking to keep pace in the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference standings as Indiana Tech comes to town Saturday. The Lady Panthers will open a tripleheader at 1 p.m., followed by a high school boy's basketball game at 3 p.m. and the Panther men after.
Davenport (17-1, 9-1 WHAC) was well tested at Concordia Wednesday evening. Although they went into intermission with a one-point lead, the Panthers couldn't recover from two major runs in the second half the Cardinals used to win the battle. The trio
Karli Harris,
Tiesha Stokes and
Kendra Cook led the effort on the Panthers behalf by reaching double digits in points but the bench continued to be major contributors to the team as they outscored the Cardinals 26-3.
The Panthers will get another opportunity to play the Cardinals when they visit the Student Center in February.
Meanwhile, Indiana Tech (7-11, 5-5 WHAC) is under new leadership this season as Jessie Biggs enters the head coaching ranks after spending the last two years as a graduate assistant coach at Western Illinois. Recently, the Warriors dropped a 66-57 contest to Cornerstone at home Wednesday. Four Warriors reached double digits on the evening, with Chelsea Carradine leading the way with 12 points, followed by Sabine Filippovica with 11 and Ulyssia Richmond and Rachael Kruse with 10. Richmond has led the team all season with 17.1 points per game. Carradine paces the Warriors on the boards with 5.7 per game.
