GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Playing against an NCAA DII opponent did not seem to faze the men's tennis team on Friday as they put together a complete match in downing Lake Superior State University 8-1.  The win lifts the Panthers to 2-1 in dual matches this season as DU picked up sweep in doubles play and a 5-1 edge in singles matches.  The Panthers will return to court next Saturday when they host Taylor University (Ind.).

Playing their first dual match since a tough 7-2 setback to Aquinas almost two weeks ago, the Panthers turned up the heat on NCAA DII foe Lake Superior State by sweeping the doubles play and taking five of the six singles matches to win 8-1.

All three doubles matches were tightly contested but DU managed to win all of them led by the #2 team of Vitaly Shumilov and Filip Henrikson who won 8-3.  Matheus de Moreira Carvalho paired with Eric Pell to win 8-5 at $3 while Tyler Chambers and Zac Chambers continued their solid play by winning 8-6 at the top.

Singles play had some very close matches that went DU's way highlighted by a three-set come from behind win by Shumilov at #1. Vitaly rallied from a 6-4 loss in the first to win 6-2, 6-3.  All other matches went the two-set minimum with Tyler Chambers picking up the largest margin of victory 6-0, 6-2 at #4 singles.

DU will return to the court on Saturday, September 29 when they host Taylor University (Ind.).

Post-Match Quotes – head coach Patrick Grashorn
The focus for this match was getting back on track after some disappointing individual results in the ITA. I was very pleased with how our guys rose to the challenge. This was a solid team that they took down and we'll look to keep it up next weekend.
