Strikeout Cancer Flyer
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport sports marketing team is inviting you out to the ballpark this Saturday, April 14 as they present their annual Strikeout Cancer game. Davenport will take on WHAC foe Madonna University in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00pm and all proceeds from the day will go to the Van Andel Institute. DU is also asking that you bring a ball cap to donate to "Caps for Clayton".
The middle of the conference slate brings one of the best teams in the conference to Grand Rapids on Saturday as the showdown between Davenport and Madonna will also be surrounded by the annual "Strikeout Cancer Game". DU sports marketing is putting on the event and needs your help to make it a success.
This year's focus will be on the Van Andel Institute with all proceeds from the day going directly to the organization but also raising cancer awareness is "Caps for Clayton". Please bring a new baseball hat to donate to the cause that was started by a five year old named Clayton after fighting two battles with cancer.

"Clayton is five years old and a two time cancer survivor. He has had 12 rounds of chemo therapy, an 11 1/2 hour surgery to remove a tumor that resulted in him not being able to walk for almost three months. The first type of cancer was Neuroblastoma and the doctors believe the treatment for this cancer cause the development of his second cancer AML Leukemia. The major part of his treatment for leukemia was a bone marrow transplant that he had just over a year ago, today he is still recovering from that transplant. We are happy to report he is cancer free and in remission."
The doubleheader will take place at East Kentwood High School with the first pitch slated for 1:00pm on Saturday. The teams will also play on Sunday at the same time and location.
