SYLVANIA, Ohio. – The Panther baseball team used dominate pitching to shut down the Gray Wolves of Lourdes today winning both games of the double header. In game one Jordan Anderson pitched a complete game allowing only one run in the 6-1 DU victory. Drew Sain then stole the show by throwing only the third no-hitter in DU baseball history to lead the Panthers to a 5-0 victory.
Game One
Jordan Anderson looked to be on his way to a no-hitter through four as he had not allowed a Lourdes base runner let alone a hit. In fact, he had two outs in the 5th when he gave up a bloop single to center for the Gray Wolves first hit of the afternoon. The 5th inning would also be the inning that Lourdes would get their only run of the afternoon. Anderson's final line on the day would be nine innings pitched, 8 hits, 1 earned run, no walks, while striking out five Gray Wolves.
Offensively, the Panthers only had 10 hits which seemed to be a slump compared to their last outing when they produced 23. However, 5 of them were for extra bases including four doubles and a triple from Cam Cooper. Cooper would go 2 for 5 on the day scoring a run and driving in one as well. Brandon Bongard and Austin Licon both had multi-hit games in game one.
Game Two
The Panthers came out in game two and scored right away in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead, which would be all the offense Drew Sain would need. Sain came out throwing strikes and letting his defense do their job behind him in order to earn the no-hitter in the nigthcap. Sain would finish with a line of seven innings pitched, giving up no hits, no runs, walking one and striking out six.
Offensively, the Panther bats were again quiet with only seven hits in the game and scoring five runs. Chad Cline had a quality game two as he went 2-3, scoring a run and recording three assists to aid Sain. Derrick Gentile had a pair of RBI in the game, one in the first inning driving in Cam Cooper and the second on a sacrifice fly in the third inning. Drew Kennedy was productive in the game as well going 1 for 2 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI single in the 4th inning. Brian Spykerman also had a big RBI single with two outs in the 6th inning.
