Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Panthers entered day five in Florida needing to win both games to get back to .500 on the trip and on the season.  Davenport went out and won both games versus the Knights of Gannon University by scores of 10-7 and 10-6.  The Panthers exploded on the day with 31 hits and 43 quality at-bats.

In game one the Panthers took control early leading 2-1 after the end of the first inning.  Davenport would score 7 runs in the 4th inning and 1 in the 6th to seemingly put game 1 away.

The Panther's offense in game one was an absolute team effort as Brandon Bongard, Austin Licon, and Jotham Woo had multiple hit games.  The big hit of the game came off the bat of Jotham Woo who hit a 2-run homerun to help spark the Panthers' big 4th inning.

Cory Hammond pitched arguably his best game of the young season going 6 innings giving up 4 earned runs, walking 2 and striking out 3.  Corey Anderson also pitched well in relief to close the door on the late rally that produced 5 Knight runs in the top of the 7th.

Game 2 saw early success by the Panther batters as they were able to jump out to a 3-1 lead after the top of the third inning.  However the Knight bats exploded in the 3rd as they were able to push 5 runs across to take a 6-3 lead.

That would however be the end of the scoring for Gannon as Jarrett Luyk would come in to relieve starter Drew Sain.  Luyk came in and gave the Panthers 4 1/3rd giving up 1 hit, walking 3 and striking out 2.

Davenport took advantage of the Luyk pitching and attacked the Knight pitching with a 7 run rally in the 6th inning to reach the eventual 10-6 final score.

In the 6th the Panthers would send 12 men to the plate using a mix of timely singles, walks, and hit by pitches to push runs across the plate.  Jotham Woo again excelled for DU going 3 for 4 with 1 RBI and scoring a run.  Cam Cooper, Jason Pierce and Mike Allen all had multiple hits in game two combining for 4 RBI and 5 runs scored.  The big bat in game 2 was that of Brandon Bongard who went 4 for 4 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored.

Post-Game Notes – The Panthers exploded for 31 hits in two games with Gannon today… The Panthers also had 43 quality at-bats which played a huge part of their success... Post-Game Quotes – Kevin Tidey

Thoughts on awakening of DU bats – A lot of the success has to do with seeing live pitching, but most of it has to do with the guys focusing on quality at-bats and doing the little things right.  They have been working a lot harder at working into good hitter counts and they have been much more aggressive early in the count.

Thoughts on winning 2 today - Obviously winning two today is great, but more important this was a great time for a character test.  We could have very easily thrown in the towel after we got down in game two.  It was great to see our guys dig deep and come from behind late in the game as they did today.
