Early First-Half Run Leads No. 6 Lady Panthers to Eighth Straight Win

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Karli Harris scored 19 points and Emily Nielsen added 13 as the sixth-ranked Davenport women's basketball team came home from a three-game road trip to post a 79-61 Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference victory over Lourdes Saturday afternoon.
 
Kayleigh VanKeulen and Alex Law both produced nine points each, with Law making all three 3-pointers. VanKeulen earned four of her points from the free throw line. Kendra Cook had a perfect day on the charity stripe, producing four free points while adding two layups for eight points.
 
The Lady Panthers jumped on board right away following the opening tip, putting together a 14-2 lead with 15:12 left. Harris scored 11 points during the run while Kendra Cook's layup and Nielsen's free throw manufactured the remaining three. Nielsen started to put the game out of reach after 12 points in 2:20, extending the Panthers lead to 30-11 with 7:01 left.
 
Tiesha Stokes and Linnea Brandholm would close out the first half with three layups, two by Stokes, within the final minute to head into the locker room with a 44-21 lead.
 
Davenport jumped into an 11-3 run at the start of the second half. The Lady Panthers largest lead of the came was 32, when Sara Clancy's layup built a 65-33 lead with 9:03 left.
 
Lourdes would start building some momentum late in the half approaching the final minute, producing a 30-12 run in the span of 8:31, but it wasn't enough to catch up to the Lady Panthers.
 
Davenport returns to action Wednesday as it hosts Siena Heights. In a rare situation, the Lady Panthers will tip off following the men's game, which is approximately 7:30 p.m.
 
Post-Game Notes
 
Davenport continues to remain perfect on the season, improving to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in the WHAC…Tiesha Stokes matched her season high of six steals. The last time she collected six takeaways was at Northwestern Ohio Wednesday…With 19 points on the afternoon, Karli Harris has reached double-digits in all but one of the eight games played this season.
