Davenport Completes Sweep; Defeats Calvin 2-1

Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport earned a sweep over MCHC foe Calvin College on Saturday night as they held on for 2-1 win over the knights. Jake Otto and Zack Feher gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead before the knights scored a shorthanded goal. The Panthers penalty kill came up big in the final period as Davenport was shorthanded for most of the final six minutes. The Panthers improve to 11-3 on the year and are now 3-0 in the MCHC.

For the tenth time in fourteen games the Panthers scored the first goal of the game. Jake Otto gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead on a play assisted by Garrett Garber and Dugan Kelly. In the second period Zack Feher extended Davenports lead after being set up by Blake Damerow and Jordan Steger.

The Panthers headed into the third period trying to protect their 2-0 lead. Calvin pulled within one goal with about 10 minutes left in the period after scoring a shorthanded goal on a 2 on 1 break. The Knights continued to apply pressure as they were on the power play for the majority of the final ten minutes. Davenport's penalty kill came through big in the final minutes as they fended off the Knights rally to pick up a 2-1 win.

John Cruse improved to 9-2 on the year as he finished with 25 saves. Davenport will be back on the ice on November 11 as they host Adrian College at Patterson Ice Center.

Davenport outshot Calvin 31-26…Davenport improves to 3-0 in the MCHC west while Calvin drops to 0-2…Through 14 games the Panthers opponents are averaging 1.43 goals a game.
