Davenport Hands Calvin First Loss; Defeat Knights 4-1

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After skating to a scoreless first period the Panthers scored four unanswered goals to hand undefeated Calvin their first loss of the season.
John Deal,
Jordan Steger,
Zack Feher, and
Donald Sund each scored for the Panthers who improved to 10-3.
John Cruse picked up the win in net stopping 21 of 22 shots faced. The two teams will meet again Saturday night as the Knights host the Panthers at Eagles Ice Center at 8:00 pm.
The Knights and Panthers skated an evenly contested first period. Both teams had several scoring chances but neither team found the back of the net. After the first period the Panthers held a 10-7 shot advantage.
Davenport used a strong second period to gain a 3-0 lead.
John Deal put the Panthers on the scoreboard after swatting a rebound out of the air and into the net. Four minutes later
Bryon Guerin found
Jordan Steger between the circles who fired a shot past the goaltender Trevor Boardway.
Zack Feher added the final goal of the period for DU. Feher threw the puck on net after Boardway was outside the crease after playing the puck.
The Panthers added their final goal of the game 1:45 into the third period.
Donald Sund scored his 10
th goal of the season as
Jake Otto and
Dugan Kelly picked up assists on the play. Less than a minute later Calvin picked up a shorthanded goal to cut the lead to three. Clint Loney found Brent Harris who picked up his team leading 8
th goal of the year. The game stayed scoreless for the remainder of the third period and Davenport picked up a 4-1 victory.

Post-Game Notes
Davenport outshot Calvin 41-22…The Panthers lead the all-time series against the knights 8-2…Neither team was able to score on the power play as Davenport went 0-5 and Calvin went 0-4.
