Davenport Looks to Get Back on Track With Weekend Series Against Calvin
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Coming off of back to back losses to Ole Miss and Alabama in the Civil War Showcase, the Panthers will look to right the ship as they have a home and home series against Calvin College this weekend. Davenport will host the Knights at Patterson Ice Arena 8:00 pm on Friday night and will finish the series at Eagles Ice center Saturday night at 8:00 pm.
The Panthers got off to a quick start last weekend with a 12-0 win over the South Florida as they picked up their 5th shutout of the year. The remaining two games of the Civil War showcase were a struggle as they lost two closely contested games that both ended with empty net goals.
Calvin College comes into this weekend's series with an unblemished 7-0 record. The Knights started the season by winning the Calvin invitational. During the invitational Calvin picked up wins over Redeemer University(5-4) and Dordt College(6-1). The next weekend the Knights picked up two big wins over perennial power houses Central Florida and College of the Canyons, both teams Davenport faced in Nationals during pool play last season.
A key to Calvin's success has been the play of junior goalie Trevor Boardaway. In four games Boardaway has posted two shutouts and ranks near the top in GAA (0.75) and SV% (.970) among all ACHA division three goalies.
Through seven games the Knights have been led by Freshmen Brad Wojtaszak and Junior Brent Harris. The two forwards lead the team in points with 12, both scoring 7 goals and adding 5 assists.
