ADRIAN, Mich. – Letesha Cannonier did it again. For the second consecutive match, the sophomore's goal in the second half put the Davenport women's soccer team ahead and a tremendous defensive effort led by Michelle Marcus lifted the Lady Panthers to a 1-0 Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference victory over Siena Heights Wednesday evening.

In addition to scoring the last two match-winning goals, Cannonier has also found the back of the net three straight matches.

It was a busy night for the goalkeeper Marcus and the Panther defensive line. Both teams finished the match even in shots 18-18 but Marcus had to make a career-most 13 saves, five were diving efforts, to secure the Lady Panthers eighth shutout and tie the 2010 Panthers for school record.

Both teams traded for a majority of the match but in the 63rd minute, Karitas Elvarsdottir's forward pass just outside the penalty line found a Saint defender, but as she was trying to maintain possession, Cannonier stole the ball and set up a two-touch shot to beat the goalkeeper to put Davenport ahead 1-0.

After playing seven of their last eight, and four straight, on the road, the Lady Panthers return to DU Turf Field to being a three-match homestand starting with WHAC newcomer Marygrove Saturday at 4 p.m.

Post-Match Quotes – Head coach Chris Allen:

“To go 2-0 after playing one of the best teams that has been in the WHAC for the last 10 years is a great start. In the whole scheme of things, it was two wins out of two and now we are now focusing on Marygrove. Siena Heights has taken care of us the last two seasons and it's definitely been a long time coming. But credit to them. We had to work so hard to just get evan a chance to win the match. Letesha scored a nice goal and Michelle was incredible in goal.”
