Davenport outscored Lourdes 46-4 off the bench

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – A strong bench effort lifted the No. 4 ranked Lady Panthers to an impressive 93-54 win as they returned to league action tonight against Lourdes University.  Davenport, now 15-2 on the year and 5-0 in the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC), will travel to Madonna University on Saturday for a 3:00pm tip in Livonia.

Abbey Hengesbach led a group of six players to find double-digits on the scoreboard with 15 points as Davenport claimed their 10th consecutive win and 27th in a row in WHAC regular season play.  Davenport outscored the Wolves 46-4 off the bench including Kayleigh VanKeulen with 12 and Emily Nielsen with 13, which tied her career high.  Other stat leaders for DU were Kia Frazier with a career high 7 rebounds and Karli Harris with 7 assists and 3 steals.

Davenport opened the game on a 10-3 run highlighted by eight points from senior Karlee Despres and they opened a 19 point lead at the 10:12 mark on a bucket from Carrie Grubius.  After a pair of free throws from Lourdes, DU finished off the half scoring the final 21 points to lead 56-18.  Davenport limited the Wolves to just 26% shooting in the first half.

The second half saw the lead grow to as many as 42 in the opening minutes and Davenport held their largest advantage of the game of 45 on a three pointer from Kayleigh VanKeulen with 4:33 remaining.  All 15 players on the roster saw extensive playing time with nobody seeing more than 21 minutes of action.

Kayleigh on playing at home for the first time since Dec. 10: "It felt to great to not only be back playing at home but also practicing at home as well. I think it gave us an advantage mentally and also shooting wise."

Kia on her role coming off the bench tonight: "I always try and do what coach wants me to do, do what I can do to help the team out and be the team player I can be to help us be successful."
