Early Second Half Goal is Decider in Panthers 0-1 Loss

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – For the second straight game, the Panthers were unable to find the back of the net and fell to Dakota Wesleyan 0-1. Davenport controlled most of the game doubling Dakota Wesleyan in shots and prevented the Tigers from taking a single corner kick. The loss drops the Panthers 1-5-1 on the season.

Davenport started the game quick and got their first shot a minute into the game and followed with a corner both of which the Panthers were unable to convert. Davenport added two more shots before Dakota Wesleyan took their first which sailed wide.

Davenport and Dakota Wesleyan went in to the half tied at 0-0 with the Panthers holding a 5-2 shot advantage and three more corner kick opportunities.

Just over three minutes into the second half, Dakota Wesleyan was able to slip the ball past Kevin O'Brien for the game's only goal.

Davenport had their opportunities down the stretch to even the score but couldn't get the ball past Jordan Werner, the Tigers' goalie. Werner currently ranks 20th in the NAIA for saves per game with 6.6.

Davenport ended the game with 15 shots and 10 corner kicks compared to just 7 shots and no corner kicks for Dakota Wesleyan. Carl Winterbottom tallied the most shots for Davenport with five with only going on goal. Jesse Asanin-Miroux and Jai Maw were the other Panthers to post multiple shots.

The Panthers will be in action again on Monday at 8:00 pm when they take on the University of Sioux Falls in South Dakota. This will be the Panthers eighth consecutive game away from Grand Rapids.

Davenport has played seven consecutive matches on the road…Three of Davenport's five losses have come by one goal…The Panthers have been held scoreless in consecutive games for the first time since the 2009 season.
