LIVONIA, Mich. - The Davenport baseball team suffered their second loss of the WHAC Tournament to Indiana Tech as the Panthers fell 2-1 to the Warriors at Madonna University. The Panthers end the season 28-18 and finished second in the WHAC during the regular season.

Playing the Warriors for the second time in the double elimination tournament, the Panthers matched the one run they scored yesterday when they fell to Tech. This time DU totaled four hits in the nine inning game.

The game was a defensive battle early on as neither team pushed across runs in the first half of the game. The Warriors put up the first run in the sixth inning as a double down the right field line by Brandon Paletta scored the runner from second base.

The Warriors added their second run in the seventh inning when a Riley Muglenkamp single with runners on the corners scored the second Tech run for a 2-0 lead.

The Panthers bats found the gaps in the outfield early in eighth inning as back-to-back doubles by Mike Allen (Midland, Mich.) and Joe Freist (Shepherd, Mich.) scored the Panthers only run. Freist's RBI double to right center scored pinch runner Chris VanGessel (Grandville, Mich.) from second base. The Panthers still had a runner in scoring position with no outs in the eighth inning; however, Rob Bolster (Blissfield, Mich.) got caught in a rundown to clear the bases.

A stellar diving catch at the warning track by Warriors' centerfielder Paul McIntosh stole an extra base hit from Matt McNeil in the ninth inning and ended all scoring threats for the Panthers.

Evan Hock went the distance for Indiana Tech, allowing four hits.

Drew Kennedy (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) started on the mound for DU, giving up seven hits and two runs, while striking out four batters.

The Panthers end their 2011 season with a 28-18 overall record and a 10-6 WHAC record. DU finished second in the WHAC during the regular season.
