Streak Extends to 17; Panthers Sweep UM-Dearborn

WYOMING, Mich. - Davenport extended their win streak to seventeen today with a doubleheader conference sweep of UM-Dearborn. DU won game one 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh and followed that with a 6-2 victory in game two. Davenport is now 25-12 overall and 12-0 in WHAC play.

In game one Davenport would strike first in the third inning when Morgan Greenfield (Wyoming, Mich.) would send a solo shot over the fence for her fifth homerun of the year. DU would then add another run in the fourth on a RBI single from freshman Debra Burton (Cassopolis, Mich.) scoring Brianna Carpenter (Irvine, Calif.) from second.

Up 2-0, UM-Dearborn would tie the game up in the top of the seventh with a two-run homerun from Jen Elliot. The Panthers however would respond in the bottom of the inning starting with a two out intentional walk toHeather Brusokas (Glendale, Calif.). Carpenter would then come up big with a double to left center to score Brusokas from first base and give DU the 3-2 victory.

Sam Cole (Belleville, Mich.) would get her fourth win on the mound this week to improve to 14-6 on the season, pitching seven complete innings with five strikeouts.

Game two would be dominated by junior Karlee Despres (Belmont, Mich.) who would connect on two homeruns for four RBI's along with pitching five complete innings and earning her sixth win on the mound.

Carpenter would also connect on a homerun for her sixth of the season to help the Panthers earn their 25th victory of the year. Amber Getty (Wayland, Mich.), Carpenter, Ali Dawson (Galesburg, Mich.), and Despres would each have two hits in the game to give DU the 6-2 victory.

Davenport is now 25-12 on the year and a perfect 12-0 in conference play with a 17 game win streak. DU will return to play on Wednesday, April 13 for a home doubleheader with Aquinas College. Davenport will be selling t-shirts and collecting donations on the 13th to raise funds for cancer research. Live stats and audio will be available for both games.
