Baseball Team Splits With Indiana Tech

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – After being canceled yesterday due to rain, Davenport was able to pick up a split at Indiana Tech with a 8-5 victory in game one and a 3-2 loss in game two. Davenport is now 24-14 on the year and 7-5 in WHAC play.
Davenport would jump on the board early with a run in the top of the first off an RBI single from Matt McNeil (St. Clair Shores, Mich.). The Panthers would then use a huge five run fifth off four hits to take a 6-0 lead heading into the bottom of the inning.
Starting pitcher Tucker Gernhard (Stafford, Va.) would enter the inning with a no-hitter going but that would soon be ended with a lead-off Indiana Tech homerun. The Warriors would add three more runs in the inning and then another in the sixth to cut the Panther lead to just 6-5.
Davenport would seal the 8-5 victory in the seventh with two more runs on two more hits to give them nine total on the day. Travis Laver (Holland, Mich.) and Jordan Bigger (Rockford, Ill.) would each go 2-3 with Matt McNeil accounting for two RBI's in the game.
In game two Davenport would tally eight hits in the game but only produce two runs in route to a 3-2 loss to the Warriors. McNeil would have both RBI's for the Panthers with one coming via a homerun in the seventh. Laver would have another great game at the plate going 3-4 with a double.
Matt Loomis (Alma, Mich.) would get the loss in game two with Jarrett Luyk (Hudsonville, Mich.) pitching up the win on the mound in game one.
Davenport is now 24-14 on the year and still sits in third place in WHAC play with a 7-5 record. DU will return to action on Monday when they travel to Holland, Mich. to take on Hope College in a 9 inning game. Live stats will be available.
