Panthers Open Conference Play With Two Victories Over Concordia University

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Lady Panthers competed for the first time on Michigan soil today with two conference victories over Concordia University. DU combined for 28 hits on the day taking game one with an 8-1 victory and game two 16-5 in five innings. Davenport is now 15-12 on the year and 2-0 in WHAC play.
In game one the top half of DU's line-up combined for eleven of the Panthers fourteen hits. Ashlee Olsen (Rockford, Mich.), Amber Getty (Wayland, Mich.), and Heather Brusokas (Glendale, Calif.) would each have three hits with Karlee Despres (Belmont, Mich.) and Morgan Greenfield (Wyoming, Mich.) accounting for two each.
Both of Greenfield's hits would be for extra bases with her hitting a homerun and double in the game. Sam Cole (Belleville, Mich.) would go the distance for the Panthers striking out eight in seven complete innings, giving up just five hits and no earned runs.
In game two DU would double their run total from the previous game putting up sixteen runs in just five innings of play. Sixteen runs scored is the most of the season for DU, who combined for fourteen overall hits in both games.
Senior Cirina Jones (Middleton, Mich.) would go a perfect 4-4 from the plate with two doubles and a triple. Greenfield would connect for her second homerun of the game along with Despres and Katie Cornman (Eastpointe, Mich.) each sending balls over the fence as well.
Despres and Brianna Carpenter (Irvine, Calif.) would pitch three and two innings for DU with Despres earning her third win of the year.
The two wins are DU's sixth and seventh in a row leading into a showdown with conference rival Madonna University tomorrow at 1pm. The games will be played in Livonia, Mich. with live stats and live audio available at www.dupanthers.com.
