ALBION, Mich. - The men's tennis team opened the spring season with a dominating performance against Albion College as the Panthers posted an 8-1 victory over the Brits. Davenport will take part in the City Tournament next weekend before heading to Florida over spring break.
Davenport swept all three doubles matches winning 8-5 at #1 behind
Victor Roland (Natal, Brazil) and
Jeff Karasinski (Grand Rapids, Mich.), 8-5 at #2 behind
Vitaly Schumilov (Togliatti, Russia) and
Matt Weiden (Kentwood, Mich.) and 8-2 at #3 behind
Eric Pell (Caledonia, Mich.) and
Tyler Chambers (Rockford, Mich.). Also playing an exhibition match was
Chris Grashorn and
Jerome Jayapal and they also brought home an 8-5 win.
DU also was solid in singles as they finished with a 5-1 advantage with the Panthers picking up straight set wins in four of the six matches. At #4 singles,
Matt Weiden went to three sets but prevailed in the decider 6-1.
The team will now look to make splash int he City Tournament next weekend.
