HOLLAND, Mich. – The Panthers gave up three late third period goals, which would be the difference in a 5-3 loss to No.1 Hope College. Davenport is now 24-11 and 9-5 in the MCHC with the final regional rankings set to be released this week.
A Taylor Keyworth (Grand Rapids, Mich.) goal from the point would give the visiting Panthers a 3-2 lead at 5:42 of the third period, and it looked like DU would leave Holland with a victory. However, the home team tied the score up at 11:28 and took the lead, 4-3, at 13:21. An empty net goal finished the scoring at 5-3.
In an evenly matched first period, the host Flying Dutchmen got on the scoreboard first with a power play goal at 9:04. The Panthers would tie the score at 1-1 less than 3 minutes later when Jordan Steger (Caledonia, Mich.) lit the lamp at 11:45. Bryon Guerin's pass set up the Panther goal.
Hope regained the lead early in the second period at 2:51. The lead would not last long though as a Bryon Guerin (Jackson, Mich.) goal quieted the home crowd at 4:36 of the second period. Steger added the assist on the power play goal.
Next up for the Panthers is a visit to East Lansing on Feb. 13, where DU will face the Michigan State Spartans at 12:30 p.m. Davenport is 2-0 against the Spartans this season, posting identical 4-2 scores in both contests.
