Davenport Opens Season With 23-4 Rout of Aquinas

PONTIAC, Mich. – The Davenport Men's lacrosse team opened their season with a convincing 23-4 win over in-town rival Aquinas with the game being played indoors in Pontiac, Mich. It's a quick turnaround for the Panthers who play Northwood University on Sunday at 1:00pm.

Davenport didn't waste any time getting on the board when Cody Cross (Grand Rapids, Mich.) scored a goal less than a minute into the game gave the Panthers a quick 1-0 lead.

The flood gates opened from their with Sam Carlson (Grand Rapids, Mich.)Lyle Parks (Troy, Mich.), and TJ Roney (Grand Rapids, Mich.) each adding a goal in the first quarter. Jordan Richtsmeier (Grand Rapids, Mich.) scored his third goal with a minute left in the opening quarter to give Davenport a 7-0 lead.

Davenport added six more goals in the second quarter with a pair coming from Dominic Boggiano (Grand Rapids, Mich.).

The Panthers string of 13 straight goals was broken when Aquinas scored with 4:14 left in the half. In the last minute, Aquinas got two goals in six seconds to make the score 13-3 at the half.

The Panthers responded to Aquinas' late first half run with a six goal run in the third quarter highlighted by Lyle Parks back-to-back goals to complete his hat trick. Davenport led 19-3 after three quarters.

Aquinas got a goal early in the fourth quarter but Davenport would respond with four more to close out the 23-4 victory.

Davenport outshot Aquinas 50-14 and collected 20 more groundballs than the Saints.

Jordan Richtsmeier led the Panthers with 4 goals. He also added 2 assists. Sam Carlson and Lyle Parks each picked up hat tricks in the win. Four more Davenport players recorded multiple goals as eleven different players scored on the day.

Dominic Boggiano led the team with 3 assists while six others tallied two assists.

Davenport will be in action again on Sunday at 1:00pm when they take on Northwood University in Pontiac, Mich.
