Panthers Split With UM-Dearborn in WHAC Opener

DEARBORN, Mich. - In their conference opener the Panthers spilt with UM- Dearborn 6-3 and 2-3. DU is now 22-8 and 1-1 in WHAC play.
In game one the Panthers fell behind 2-0 after a homerun in the second by Dearborn and an unearned run in third. Davenport would answer back in the fourth inning when Morgan Greenfield (Wyoming, Mich.) would connect for a three run homerun to put DU up 3-2. The lead would not last long as the Wolves would add another run in the bottom of the inning off Panther miscues to tie the game up at 3-3.
After a scoreless fifth DU would take the lead in the sixth inning after an RBI single from Heather Brusokas (Glendale, Calif.) scoring Ali Dawson (Galesburg, Mich.) and Haley Stehouwer (Wyoming, Mich.) to go up 5-3.
The Panthers would add another run in the seventh to seal the 6-3 victory. Sam Cole (Belleville, Mich.) would go the distance for DU giving up just six hits, with six strikeouts, and only one earned run.
In game two the Panthers would once again find themselves having to come from behind as UM-Dearborn would get all of its three runs in the first inning to go up 3-0.
Davenport would leave runners stranded in the third, fourth, and fifth innings before pushing two across in the sixth to cut the lead to one. DU would have runners in scoring position in the top of the seventh but would be unable to push any across and fall 3-2. Brusokas would have three hits in the game, while Greenfield would have two.
Brianna Carpenter (Irvine, Calif.) would get the loss on the mound for the Panthers in game two.
Davenport will continue WHAC play tomorrow as they will have their first home game of the year against #19 Madonna University. The doubleheader is set to start at 1:00pm and will be broadcasted on "The Dan".
