Pitchers Dual Lifts Panthers to Split vs. Indiana Tech

KENTWOOD, Mich. - Davenport completed its four game series against Indiana Tech today with a 4-2 loss and 1-0 victory to split the weekend series 2-2. Davenport is now 15-20 on the year and 5-7 in WHAC play.

In game one Davenport would jump out to a quick lead in the first inning after a two-run homerun from senoir Matt Collins (Akron, Ohio). Indiana Tech would answer back in the third with a two-run homerun of their own to tie the game up at 2-2.

The Warriors would add runs in both the fifth and six innings to help seal the 4-2 victory over DU. Jarrett Luyk (Hudsonville, Mich.) would earn the loss on the mound after going all seven innings and striking out eleven batters.

In game two both teams would remain off the scoreboard until the sixth inning.

With two outs in the sixth Derrick Gentile (Sturgis, Mich.) would single up the middle for his third hit of the game. David Stuppy (Dowagiac, Mich.) would follow up the single with a walk to put runners on first and second. Travis Laver (Holland, Mich.) would then push the game winning run across home plate with a single to right field.

Up 1-0, DU would hold on the earn their fifth conference victory.

Davenport will be back in action tomorrow when they host Calvin College for a 4:00pm nine inning game.
