BOX SCORE

KENTWOOD, Mich. - The Panthers hosted nearby Calvin College today and used a fast start to win 6-4 against the Knights. Davenport has won its last two games and three of its last five as they move to 16-20 on the year.

After Calvin brought across a run in the top of the first, DU got a good start in their at-bat as David Stuppy (Dowagiac, Mich.) doubled to right field. Matt Collins (Akron, Ohio) then moved Stuppy to third and Austin Licon (Rockford, Ill.) followed with a booming homerun to deep left center for the 2-1 lead.

Davenport added to their lead in the bottom of the 3rd when Dan Brown (Bay City, Mich.) singled home two runs and Matt Collins had an RBI Sac fly.

Brown would later hit his 6th homerun of the year in the bottom of the 8th which gave Davenport a 6-2 lead heading into the 9th inning.

DU starter Gordon Powers (St. Clair Shores, Mich.)) was solid after the one-run first as the junior finished with a line of 4.0IP, 4 hits, 2 earned while striking out four.

Greg Bartlett (Hemlock, Mich.) came in the game in relief and picked up the win for DU as the junior improves to 3-2 on the year. Matt McNeil (St. Clair Shores) got the 1-out save for the first save of his DU career.

Davenport is now 16-20 on the year and plays a very important series this weekend against Concordia University. Only one game separates the two teams with 8-games remaining in the league season. The Panthers will travel to Ann Arbor on Friday before hosting the Cardinals on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
