FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Davenport rebounded in the WHAC to gain a split today at Indiana Tech as the Panthers won game one 5-4 before falling 11-8 in the nightcap. DU is now 14-19 on the year and will host the Warriors on Sunday at 1:00 at East Kentwood HS.

The scoring started early for both teams as DU got on the board in the top of the first when Matt Collins (Akron, Ohio) homered after James Folske (Mt Pleasant, Mich.) singled to center-field. The host Warriors came right back with two of their own to tie the score after one inning of play.

DU then took another lead in the second when Dan Brown (Bay City, Mich.) scored on a single from Travis Laver (Holland, Mich.). That would be all of the scoring for either team until the bottom of the fifth when IT tied but the pitching for DU left two guys on base to keep the score knotted at 3-3.

Needing a win to get back on track in league play, DU got big top of the 7th as they brought across two runs via a homerun from Matt McNeil (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) and double off the bat of Laver to score Joe Hill (Tecumseh, Mich.).

Indiana Tech did threaten in the bottom of the seventh but could manage only one run as Jesse Schneider (Cuyahoga Falls, Mich.) got the save for Brandon Romero's (Hart, Mich.) 5th win of the year.

Game two was much more of a offensive showdown as 19 runs were put up but DU was on the losing end 11-8.

Davenport started out hot again as they scored seven runs in two of the first three innings and led 7-3 after the 3rd.

Collecting RBI in the first were Austin Licon (Rockford, Ill.), Matt McNeil and Dan Brown. McNeil then hit a two-run triple in the top of the 3rd and was later brought home on an RBI single by Dan Brown. The scoring was finished by a Travis Laver single that scored Brown.

Unfortunately that would be almost all of the scoring for DU as they managed only one more run while giving up eight in the final three at-bats for Tech.

Middle relief was a big downfall for the Panthers as Greg Bartlett (Hemlock, Mich.) was charged with the loss.

The split leaves DU at 14-19 on the year and 4-6 in league action. The Panthers will host the Warriors on Sunday at 1:00 PM at East Kentwood HS.
