GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The D3 hockey team faced off against the #2 team in the region this past weekend, the Hope Flying Dutchmen. DU was defeated on the road Friday, 5-2, and then at Patterson Ice Center Saturday night, 7-1. Davenport is now 22-9, and 9-6 in MCHC action.

On Friday night Hope started the scoring with two quick goals in the first, DU answered back with a goal from Justin Welker (Speedway, Ind.) to end the first period down by one. Hope added another goal in second to make it 3-1 heading into the 3rd period.

Davenport would add another goal in the 3rd from Sam Waldhart (Walker, Mich.), but that would be all the scoring for DU, as they would fall 5-2.

On Saturday night the Panthers hosted Hope at home in a Brest Cancer Awareness game which saw all funds generated from the game donated to the Van Andel Institute.

Unfortunately the Panthers came out cold as they allowed 3 goals in the first period, 1 in the second, and then 3 more in the third. DU would only score one goal on the night from Welker, which was assisted by Norm Farr (Jenison, Mich.), to put the final score at 7-1.

Davenport is now 22-9 and 9-6 in conference play. DU will look to get back on the winning path as they wrap up their regular season schedule with Calvin College on Friday and Saturday night. Saturday's, match-up will be at Patterson Ice Center, and game time is set for 7:00pm.
