MIDLAND, Mich. - A late goal in the second period to break a 1-1 deadlock proved to be the game winner as the #1 seeded Hope Flying Dutchmen downed DU 5-1. The loss sends the Panthers into the consolation game on Saturday night in Midland.

DU was looking to defeat #1 seed Hope for the first time this season but got off to a slow start on offense scoring only one goal in the first two periods.

Hope took a 1-0 lead after the first but DU got the equalizer when Jake Williams (Jenison, Mich.) scored on assists from Garrett Russell (Midland, Mich.) and Michael Stedman (Riverside, Ontario).

It looked as if the Panthers would go into the third tied with Hope, but the top seed took a 2-1 lead with only five seconds to play.

That goal gave the Dutchmen the momentum they needed as they would pour in three more goals in the final period for the 5-1 win.

DU will now play in the consolation game on Saturday night at 7:45 PM.
