Panthers Celebrate Senior Night with 11-1 Win over Central Michigan

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Davenport celebrated the final home game for six players tonight with an 11-1 defeat of Central Michigan. The win lifts DU to 28-14 on the year as they now look to claim their 5th straight GMHL Tourney on March 5-6.

Davenport cruised along for the first 10 minutes of the game and then the flood gates opened when Matt Morang (Dearborn, Mich.) scored on assists from David Little and Brit Ouellette (Windsor, Ontario) with 9:37 left in the first.

Ben Dykstra (Kentwood, Mich.) followed with an unassisted power play goal just over four minutes later and the scoring was completed in the first when Jeff Slusser (Kentwood, Mich.) scored a shorthanded goal assisted by Brandon Davis.

DU would put up three more goals in the second period highlighted by two goals from David Little in only 19 seconds. Morang finished the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 3:59 mark and DU led 6-0 after two.

Opening the third, the scoring got started right away when Ben Dykstra added his second of the game and the Panthers would eventually pour on four more for the final score of 11-1.

DU improves to 28-14 on the year and Scott Knight (Grand Rapids, Mich.) improves to 20-10.

DU will look for their 5th straight GMHL Tourney title in two weeks when they travel to East Lansing as the #1 seed. They receive a bye in the opening round due to the 7 team format and they will play the lowest seed remaining on Saturday after the first round play Friday night.
