GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The eleventh ranked Panthers opened their 2010-2011 Season and the 2010 Panther Tip-Off with a 110-56 win over Great Lakes Christian College. The Panthers overcame a sloppy start to take a 15 point lead heading into halftime before pilling on a school record sixty-eight points in the second half. The Panthers will play Grace Bible in the Championship game tomorrow at 3:00.

Turnovers and fouls helped GLCC stay in the game early and even gave them the lead at 12-10. But Davenport turned things around quickly with a 14-2 run highlighted by a Kale Waaso (South Haven, Mich.) dunk. The Panthers ended the half with a 42-27 lead.

James Nelson (New Haven, Mich.) came out of the half with a couple quick steals to spark a 19-4 run for the Panthers that extended their lead to 61-31. Nelson finished with 7 steals on the night, a new Davenport single game record, to go along with 18 points and a team leading 7 rebounds.

A couple late run-out dunks by James Humphrey (Fort Wayne, Ind.) extended the Panthers lead to 100-49. Humphrey finished the game with 18 points.

Nathan Cox (Flushing, Mich.) led the Panthers with 25 points. He shot .889 from the field a new Davenport record including 2-3 from beyond the arc. Nathan was 7-7 from the free-throw line.

Davenport would go on to win 110-56. The sixty-eight points scored in the second half is the most scored in a half by the Panthers. The previous high was fifty-six set last year against Kuyper College. The Panthers also made forty-five field goals and shot .625 from the field both new school records.

Davenport improves to 3-0 in home openers and 23-3 overall at the DU Student Center.
With the win Davenport moved into the Championship game of the Panther Tip-Off and will play Grace Bible tomorrow at 3:00 pm. Grace Bible advanced by beating Kuyper College 95-46.
