Seven Players Score in 7-2 Victory Over Detroit Mercy

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The D3 hockey team returned home on Saturday night to take on Detroit Mercy for the second time in two nights. After a convincing 13-1 win Friday night the Panthers finished the weekend sweep with a 7-2 victory last night. The win puts DU at 4-0 on the year and has them off to their best start since the team formed in 2008-2009.
Ben Duthler started out the scoring for DU in the first period from teammates Sam Waldhart and Taylor Keyworth. The Panthers would add another goal from Zack Feher to send them into the locker room with a 2-0 lead after one.
The two goal pace would continue in the second period with goals from Jake Williams and Norm Farr to put DU up 4-0. Detroit Mercy would add their first goal of the night at the end of the second to cut the lead to 4-1.
Davenport would then add three more goals in the third period from rookies Garrett Garber, Adam Lippert, and Dylan Downs. Detroit Mercy would add a late goal in the period to give DU the 7-2 victory. John Cruse and Matt Sekosan would split time in net for the Panthers with Cruse earning the victory.
On the night seven different players would score for the Panther and seven different players would finish with two points.
Davenport is now 4-0 on the year and will be back in action at Patterson Ice Center on Friday, October 8th to take on Saginaw Valley State University. Game time is set for 8:00pm.
