ANN ARBOR, Mich. - On a windy but warm day in Ann Arbor, the Panthers ended their regular season with a split against Concordia with a 7-6 loss in game one and a 10-2 win in the nightcap. DU has also announced the cancellation of Sunday's non-conference game with Alma College.
Game one was a battle for both teams to get any kind of comfort zone as the winds and heat played a big factor. Concordia put up runs in four of their six at-bats including a big 3-run rally in the bottom of the 5th after DU scored all six of their runs in the top of the fourth.
James Folske and Ryan Lind each ended game one with two RBI as not a single Panther posted more than one hit during the seven innings. Brandon Romero took the loss for Davenport dropping his season record to 5-2.
Game two again started with the host Cardinals looking good with the bats as they took a 2-0 lead after two innings. Davenport's offense then got started as they put the first two runners on in the 3rd and ended up scoring 4-runs to take a 4-2 lead after three. The Panthers then tacked on two more in the fourth and four more in the 6th to cruise to the 10-2 win.
Wesley Trimpe was solid after the shaky start as the freshman went 6-innings while giving up only 5 hits and 1 earned run. Trimpe also struck out three to gain his first ever win in college.
The split ends the regular season for Davenport with a 31-21 overall record and an even 10-10 mark in the conference. With the cancellation of Sunday home non-conference game with Alma, the Panthers will next play in Livonia at Madonna University in the WHAC Tournament as the #4 overall seed.
