GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University Men's Lacrosse team faced off against Aquinas College in their final home game of the season this afternoon. Coming off a tough, two game road losing streak, the #4 ranked Panthers would add their ninth win of the season on the wings of a 12 goal third period. Davenport's offense would break the 30 goal barrier for the first time in school history on their way to beating the Saints 33-6.

The Panther offense started strong, showing their speed and athleticism, scoring seven unanswered goals to dominate the first quarter. Getting the first goal of the game would be Jeff Samuels. Samuels would be accompanied by five other Panthers who scored during the first fifteen minutes.

DU's defense would let down their guard early in the second, allowing the Saints four quick goals in the first five minutes. Davenport would right the ship on the shoulders of Gavin Morris, who scored his second goal of the day to start a nine goal finish to the quarter.

Heading into the locker room with a 16-4 lead, Davenport was led by Shawn Beer. The sophomore scored six goals in the first half, with five coming in the second quarter to revive the DU offense. The Panthers outshot Aquinas 25-8 in the first 30 minutes while gaining 24 groundballs to the Saints' 12.

Coming out of the locker room for the second half, DU looked to put the game away as an offensive explosion resulted in the Panthers outscoring Aquinas 12-1 and outshooting the Saints 19-3.

With the game out of reach, the DU offense laid back, scoring only five goals to the Saints' one, setting the final score at 33-6 in favor of the record breaking Panthers. Davenport outshot Aquinas 59-18 and had 50 ground balls compared to the Saints' 21.

Leading Davenport in goals scored, was Shawn Beer. Beer had eight goals while accumulating 12 points. Two other Panthers finished the game with double digits in the points column. Dylan Gilbert had five goals and five assists, and Jordan Richtsmeier scored four goals while recording six assists, giving him ten points as well.

With this win, Davenport improves to 9-2 on the season and remains undefeated all-time on its home field. The win also gives the Panthers their 20th win in program history.

DU will look for its tenth win on the season this Saturday at 7:30pm when they face Ferris State in the Lowell Lacrosse Festival at Lowell High School.
