21 Goals in Second Game Gives WLAX Team Two Wins at Wheaton Play Day

WHEATON, Ill. - The offense came alive today for the Lady Panthers Lax team as they posted two wins at the Wheaton College Play Day. Davenport defeated Carthage 11-5 before shutting out Augustana 21-0 in the second and final game of the day.
In the day's first game, Davenport jumped out to a quick lead in the opening half as they led 6-1 as they went into the locker room. The Lady Panthers defense then held strong in the closing half to win 11-5 over Carthage College. Leading the way offensively for DU was Jamie VandeWinkle who finished the game with two goals and three assists as well as Lydia Bedford who posted two goals and one assist.
Also scoring for Davenport were Jessica Talcott (1g, 1a), Daniella Bugli (2g, 1a) and Valerie Carr and Helena Stieg each chipped in two goals. Shaye Bradley posted 8 saves in the game.
The second game of the day was a one-sided affair as Davenport dominated Augustana 21-0. It is the first shutout ever for the Lady Panthers in school history as they got a huge game from Brittanie Bond who finished with one goal and two assists and also came away with six ground balls.
Other big games for Davenport in the second game were Kendra Stieg who posted five goals, Jamie VandeWinkle (1g, 5a), Lydia Bedford (4g), Daniella Bugli (2g, 2a) and Helena Stieg (3g, 1a). All but three Lady Panthers scored in the second game.
The two wins lift Davenport to 10-6 on the year as they now boast a seven game winning streak heading into their final home game of the season on Tuesday when they welcome Hope College to the Turf Field. Game time is set for 6:00 PM.
