NORTH CANTON, Ohio - Davenport improved their record to 13-7 today with a 4-2, and 7-3 sweep over Walsh this afternoon. The Panthers bats continued to stay hot as they connected on five homeruns on the day.
In game one DU jumped on the scoreboard early with three runs in the first inning. They would add another run in the fourth with Haley Stehouwer's first homerun of the day. Walsh would then score two runs in the sixth inning, but that would be all that Kassi Johnson would allow.
Johnson would go all seven innings in the 4-2 game giving up just five hits in route to her sixth win of the year.
Stehouwer would go 3-4 in game one, Cora Miller would add two hits and Ali Dawson, Morgan Greenfield, Kristin Miedema, and Nikki Aldrich would each add one, rounding out the nine hits for DU.
For the second day in a row Stehouwer would go deep on the first pitch of the game to put DU up 1-0 in game 2. Walsh would answer back with two runs in the bottom of the inning before adding another in the second to go up 3-1. Miedema would then get the Panthers offense back going with a double to left field, followed up by a two run homerun by Morgan Greenfield to tie the game up at 3-3.
DU would then take the lead back over in the fifth inning scoring four runs off a solo homerun by Stehouwer and a three run shot by Miedema. That would be all pitcher Karlee Despres would need as she would hold the Walsh offense to only two hits in the last five innings of the game to solidify the 7-3 victory.
With the two victories today Davenport improves its record to 13-7. DU will be back in action this weekend when they take on Trinity Christian on Friday and then Calumet College of St. Joe on Saturday.
