ADRIAN, Mich. - Only one week remains in the regular season and Davenport freshened up for another National Title run with an 8-1 victory in Adrian on Friday night. DU improves to 34-4 on the year with the victory.
The Panthers hockey team is well on their way to preparing for the playoffs as they won in confidence Friday night 8-1 against the Bulldogs of Adrian. Adrian plays a rough and tough style of play but that was no match for the Panthers high scoring offense.
Ben Dyskstra got the scoring going just 6:37 into the game on the powerplay. The goal was assisted by Jeremy Barber and Adam Thomas. Ten minutes later Adam Thomas found the back of the net with Brit Ouellette assisting on the play. Not even a minute later Rick Gadwa scored with a great pass from Tom Dowell, but Adrian would salvage a goal late in the first to cut the lead to 3-1 and that's how the first would end with DU outshooting Adrian 12-4.
The second period followed suit to the first as DU posted three goals from Bobby Collar, Brit Ouellette, and Jeff Slusser. Oullette's goal was one for the highlight reel as he recieved a pass from Gadwa at the blue line and proceeded to dangle around an Adrian defenseman and make a spectacular move on the goaltender to send the puck into the cage. DU left the second period up 6-1.
The panthers never looked back in the third, scoring twice more from Oullette and Gadwa. Brit's goal was assisted by Dowell and Eric Troup and Gadwa's was unassisted. DU outshot Adrian 30-17 and had great goaltending from Chris Joswiak as well as strong defense from the entire Defensive Core.
Ouellette and Gadwa both finished the night with two goals and an assist apiece.
The DU hockey team looks to prepare for the GMHL League Playoffs with a make-up game tuesday vs. Michigan. The GMHL tournament begins Friday at Patterson Ice Center where Davenport will take on Ohio State at 7:00 PM. The semifinals are set for 8:30 and 9:00 on Saturday morning and will be followed by the championship game at 8:00 PM.
